It is true definitely as one of the factors - the British faced a lot of armed uprisings from various Hindu groups and they tool special draconian measures to ensure that the subkect populations did not have access to weapons or maintain their martial traditions. Even then the final straw that broke the British back and contributed to its decision to hand over power was (1) the INA march towards Imphal and the huge popularity of the imprisoned INA officers (2) the Naval uprising which could only be suppressed by false promises of the Nehruvian citerie. The strongest opposition to Nehru's power came from the two "armed revolutionary" provinces of Punjab and Bengal which were partitioned by the British so that these populations were displaced and destroyed. Nehruvian government therefore continued the British policy of leaving the populations without any means of self-defence as they were more concerned about holding onto power themselves which could be jeopardized.
